Description
This resource is aimed at pupils in junior classes, SEN pupils or pupils who need some practice on visual discrimination and revision on colour. The resource, based on sleighs and Christmas gifts, aims to help pupils to use visual cues to match each gift to its matching colour Santa sleigh. There are up to twelve sleighs/gifts for pupils to match.
This resource also aims to encourage the development of oral language skills in the interaction between adult and the pupil while completing the activity.
Cut out the 12 Matching Cards, the Choice Boards and the small picture cards with the coloured gifts and laminate them. Velcro should be attached to the empty boxes on the Matching Cards, the Choice Boards and at the back of all the cut out small picture cards.
You can choose to play a matching activity using six colours, eight colours or all twelve colours. To encourage confidence, it might be better to start by practising six colours and build up to the twelve colours.
Attach all of the picture cards with gifts to a Choice Board in a random order. The pupil selects one of the matching cards and looks at the colour of the sleigh on the left hand side of the card. The pupil then has to find the matching colour gift, pull it from the Choice Board and attach it to the Matching Card.
This activity is also a good fine motor activity for some pupils in the pulling of the picture card from the Choice Board and the attaching of the image to the correct space on the Matching Card.
