Christmas Sentences 02

christmas_sentences_02This resource is aimed at pupils in first to third classes or SEN pupils. Its purpose is to assist with the understanding of both sentence structure and reading for meaning. These Christmas sentences are made up of six words.

Laminate all of the pages in the resource. Cut out the six sentence strips and the corresponding words, which are colour co-ordinated to assist with matching. Place velcro in each of the empty boxes on the sentence strips and on the rear of the individual words.

Christmas Jokes Matching

christmas_jokes_matchingThis resource is aimed at pupils in middle classes. There are Christmas Jokes questions on red flashcards and Christmas Jokes answers on green flashcards. Pupils have to sort out the jokes and match the questions to the correct answers. There are twelve jokes to match. The resource assumes an ability to read.

Print out all pages in the resource and, if possible, laminate all of the pages. Cut out all of the flashcards.

Christmas True or False

christmas_true_or_falseThis resource is aimed at pupils in middle classes. There are statements about Christmas on flashcards and pupils have to sort out the statements and decide whether they are true or false. There are twenty sentences to sort, ten of which are true and ten which are false. The resource assumes an ability to read.

Print out all pages in the resource, including the “True” and “False” signs at the end. If possible, laminate all of the pages. Cut out the true and false headers as well as the twenty sentences.

Match The Silhouettes 01

match_the_silhouettes_01This seasonal activity features ten different Christmas-themed images. It is aimed at the development of visual perception. Pupils have to match the silhouette to the Christmas-themed image.

Laminate all pages in the resource. Cut out the silhouettes and all of the matching baseboards. Place velcro in all of the blank boxes on the baseboards and at the rear of the silhouette images.

Lily and the Snowman is a short animated film from Cineplex Movies from 2015. It tells the story of how, every winter, a magical snowman puts on a show for a little girl. But over time, life pulls them apart. Will she remember to take the time for what she loved?

Buster the Boxer

“Buster the Boxer” is the much anticipated Christmas TV advert for 2016 from the John Lewis department store in the UK. It tells the story of a little girl called Bridget who loves to bounce. When her mum and dad buy her a trampoline for Christmas, they soon discover that she isn’t the only one with a passion for jumping.

Against the soundtrack of “One Day I’ll Fly Away”, Buster looks on as two foxes, a badger, a hedgehog and a squirrel enjoy bouncing on the trampoline.

Mog’s Christmas Calamity

Mog’s Christmas Calamity is the 2015 advert from the UK-based supermarket chain Sainsburys. It is based around the popular fictional cat Mog, created by the children’s author Judith Kerr. With Christmas carefully planned in the Thomas household, Mog sets off a chain of events which lead to catastrophe.

Christmas Bookmark 12

bookmark_12Printable bookmarks with the words “Nollaig Shona” and a Santa illustration. Bookmarks are a good incentive for reading for pleasure and it’s good to encourage pupils at this time of the year to continue reading for pleasure. There are three bookmarks per page. If you find that the bookmark is still too large, set your printer options to print two pages per page.

Say It Think It 01

say_it_think_it_01This resource is aimed at pupils with poor social skills who need practice in knowing the difference between thinking something and saying it aloud, especially at Christmas time. This resource also aims to develop categorisation skills as well as to encourage oral language and discussion on the topic.

Pages 1-4 should be laminated. The small squares on pages 3-4 should then be cut out. Velcro should be attached to the squares on pages 1-2 and at the back of all cut out squares from pages 3-4. With a teacher/SNA working with a pupil, pages 1-2 are placed on the table.

Silly Christmas Sentences 01

silly_christmas_sentences_01This resource is aimed at junior/middle pupils or SEN pupils at the beginning of work on literacy. It focuses on Christmas-themed sentence construction in a fun way. There are eight pages in the resource which should be laminated and cut up into 32 separate cards. Pupils choose four cards and put them together in the correct order to make the silly sentence. The colour-coded strips on the last page of the resource are to show pupils the order in which to place the cards in order to make the sentence.
